CHOPPED: Music Class Edition
My high school music class is quite large. I have 14 students (my other classes all have half that many students). I have been trying to figure out a game to play with them to fulfill the requirements of the state standard for performing and listening to music including using non-traditional instruments.
I figured out an activity using the idea from the cooking show “Chopped.”For this activity, students will be grouped into teams of 3-4. Each team will receive a box with a c0uple of instruments, a slip of paper containing a Bible verse, and a Bible (to look up the verse). They have 15 minutes to compose a song using all of the elements. The song has to be 30-45 seconds in length. Peers will rate each other. I will also be a judge. I have a teacher’s aide in my classroom that will vote as well. The class will collectively count as one vote. I will count as one. The aide will count as the final vote. We will continue to compete (elimination style) until we get down to one winning team.
I am attaching it here for your free use! Enjoy!
